This event serves to provide cutting edge training in school safety and highlights the newest technologies. In addition to the unprecedented educational opportunities, the National Institute of Justice will officially unveil A.S.T.R.O, an active school shooter virtual training tool. Conference attendees can also attend virtual training in Incident Commander, where they can respond virtually to an emergency management incident at a school. Additionally, attendees can participate in School Safety Plan Generator where they will be able to build an emergency response plan for their actual school or district. Attendees can also train in a virtual School Vulnerability Program which can be customized to their school. All conference attendees will receive free copies of these programs to return to their departments or districts with for continued use.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), U.S. Department of Education, will sponsor a 2 1/2-day advanced studies seminar on the use of the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) and Teacher Follow-up Survey (TFS) for research and policy discussion.

This seminar is open to institutional researchers, education practitioners, and policy analysts from state and local education agencies and professional associations, as well as advanced graduate students and faculty members from colleges and universities nationwide. Since an individual must have a restricted-use (RU) license in order to obtain a copy of the SASS RU dataset, this training is limited to applicants who either already have a RU license or are in the process of obtaining one.

The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), Institute of Education Sciences, U.S. Department of Education, will sponsor a 3-day advanced studies seminar on the use of the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study, Birth Cohort (ECLS-B) database. The ECLS-B is designed to support research on a wide range of topics pertaining to young children’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development and their health status across multiple contexts (e.g., home, child care, and kindergarten).
